Bitten, Tortured & More: See What a Caregiver Did to a 5-year-old Girl in Kaduna (Photo)

A 5-year-old girl identified as Ramatu Danjuma, has been tortured by her caregiver, Zulaiha Yakubu severally in Ungwan Shanu area of Kaduna state, which led to bite marks and wounds all over her body.

The caregiver in her defence when she was brought to the office of the Coordinator of Global Initiative for Women and Children (GIWAC), Hafsat Baba by a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) in the area, Women In Need on Wednesday, said she flogged and bit the girl for fighting in school.
Hafsat Baba said the caregiver has been married for two years without an issue and requested for the girl from her mother-in-law seven months ago.

She said, “The girl is the daughter of the caregiver’s brother-in-law that is the brother of her husband. Unfortunately, Zulaiha, who happens to be the caregiver, has been married for two years and she has subject Ramatu to beatings and even biting. The scars are all over her body, the girl is so shocked and traumatized.”

She commended the organisation that intervened in the matter, which she said has exposed the torture being done the girl adding that, “The girl was subjected to hard labour and denied proper Western and Islamic education but was enrolled for extra lessons classes by the caregiver.”

She said they are working with the Nigerian Security and Civil defence Corps (NSCDC) to ensure that the issue is investigated with a view to prosecuting the caregiver to serve as a deterrent to others.
