‘Don’t Marry a Girl Who Cannot Cook, Pray for 1 hour - Pastor Adeboye' (Watch)

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E. A. Adeboye, has drawn a line which he says his members must not cross.

According to Vanguard, at a recent church service, the 74-year-old minister admonished his pastors and declared that none of them must join the trending #BeardGang.

But that was not all. Counselling youths (males, really) on marriage, he laid down the following conditions:

Don’t ever marry outside the church; you have no reason to marry outside RCCG. The reason is that if you are both from the same church even when trouble comes it is easier for the pastors to handle it!

Don’t marry a girl simply because she can sing! In the choir there are some people that can sing but they are fallen angels! Marry a prayer warrior! If a girl cannot pray for one hour, don’t marry her.

Don’t marry a girl who is lazy! Don’t marry a girl who cannot cook, she needs to know how to do chores and cook because you cannot afford to be eating out all the time.

Don’t marry a girl who is worldly! If you do, you have carried what you’ll worship for the rest of your life!

Many couples have different types of domestic arrangements that work for them; most of which are determined by each partner’s career path. Gone are the days when many women sit at home, waiting on the man to provide for them; most women have learned a trade or are employees.

A man no longer has the monopoly of claiming tiredness at the end of a work day, or being the family’s ‘breadwinner’. And so, it is imperative that couples are encouraged to make domestic arrangements, unite in love and solve little domestic issues like cooking.

Also, many young men, find no shame in cooking. My husband doesn’t. But, the most dangerous beating a union would be dealt with is for an influential minister to whisper into men’s ears such talks about ‘being the man’ and the ‘standard’ to expect of their women. Thus, inadvertently encouraging gender prejudice.
