Scarcity of Bread Hits Kano as Bakers Go on Strike

According to BBC News..

The price of bread is on the increase in Kano State as bakers in the state are on strike. The strike hit its second day today, making it impossible for people to enjoy their normal egg, bread and tea breakfast.

According to sources, the bakers are using the strike to protest the rising cost of flour, which has increased with 30%.
Prices of every day commodities are increasing because the government has restricted access to foreign currency, making it difficult to import goods.

The Kano State Bakers Association says many bakeries are running at a loss because of the rising costs, and the strike is intended to draw attention to their plight.

"The price of all the ingredients including flour, sugar have increase by more than 20% in the last three month as a result of foreign currency fall Nigeria is facing," said its spokesman Kabiru Hasan.
